What’s Involved In A Pet Photography Session?

So how does an indoor dog portrait session work in my home?

Before the day we will have already discussed what you’d like to achieve from your dog or other pet photo session. 

In the case of dogs, we’ll discuss their personality and how well they respond to basic commands, for example ‘wait’ and what their favourite things are.

It will be really great if they are brushed or groomed so we can see their eyes.

My studio consisting of a backdrop stand, backdrops and lighting is portable and is quick and easy to set up almost anywhere. This will take around 20 minutes. The great thing is that it is wireless so I won’t be restricted by plug sockets and it’s safer too.

It’s important when set up that we let your dog explore and have a good sniff. We want them to be relaxed and not frightened before we start taking any photographs.

I work with dogs every day and know a lot about their body language, so that will help.

I’ll get to know them with fuss, treats and toys. We’ll take some pictures of an object as this will get your dog used to the flash while he’s working out what on earth we are doing.

When he is ready we will start…

I’ll need your help with positioning and commands, perhaps standing behind me with a ball or special toy. We can even use a lead if we need this can be removed during editing.

We can use a couple of different backgrounds and poses so you’ll have a variety to choose from.

A dog’s attention span is short so we’ll keep it fun with lots of rewards and fuss for posing nicely.
